Meteorological summer persists in Ukraine, says Hydrometeorological Center

Ukraine has yet to experience the temperature drop necessary to mark the beginning of meteorological fall.

Nataliia Ptukha, spokesperson of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, made the announcement during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“We experienced unusually high temperatures over the summer, and September has continued to feel more like summer. Currently, we are still in meteorological summer because the temperatures haven’t dropped low enough to indicate the start of meteorological fall,” Ptukha explained.

She clarified that meteorological autumn occurs when the average daily temperature remains at or below 15 degrees Celsius for several days in a row. The majority of regions of Ukraine, though, are still experiencing higher temperatures.

“At present, most regions of Ukraine are experiencing elevated temperatures. Along with this, we’re also seeing a significant precipitation deficit, particularly during the summer months. This shortage has been most pronounced in the southern, eastern, and central regions,” Ptukha added.
