Border agents do not accept digital ID verification via apps for men liable for military service to depart Ukraine

Paper military registration documents with the appropriate marks for certain categories of citizens are the only acceptable documents to support identity for border control. Currently, border guards are not accepting digital identity solutions via any mobile applications used by individuals eligible for military service to update their personal eligibility information records in the state databases.

Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made this announcement during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“Regarding mobile applications that could be used by persons liable for military service to update their personal eligibility information in the systems, we do not accept them. Only a military registration document issued by the territorial recruitment center, containing the necessary marks for temporary deferral from conscription for military service on mobilization or exemption from military registration, is accepted. The government decree published on May 17 also provides for an electronic military registration document, but the current applications that everyone is focusing on are not electronic military registration documents. When the procedure for generating a military registration document in electronic form is implemented, border guards will start accepting it as a valid document, in accordance with the rules for crossing the state border of Ukraine as specified in the relevant regulations,” Demchenko explained.
