Zelenskyy’s presence made it possible to persuade EU leaders to take a principled stance on the need to defeat russia — Merezhko
Recently, the President of Ukraine visited London, Paris, and Brussels.
Oleksandr Merezhko, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, stressed the importance of the president’s visit to Europe during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“It was a visit of historical scale. It was symbolic to start with the UK as one of Ukraine’s greatest allies and friends. Then President Zelenskyy visited Brussels, the so-called capital of the European Union, where he met with EU leaders, the German Chancellor, and the French President to call our friends and partners for actions to provide strong security assistance to Ukraine right at this quite a dangerous moment,” Merezhko said.
According to Merezhko, it is also essential to repeatedly emphasize that the European Union provides assistance and support to Ukraine as and when required.
“We might say that thanks to the President’s personal appearance and contacts with the leaders of the EU countries, he managed to convince them to take a very consistent, principled position on the need to defeat russia,” Merezhko said.
