Zaporizhia leads transparency growth among 100 Ukrainian cities – Study results

Zaporizhia has shown the most significant improvement in transparency among Ukraine’s frontline cities over the past year, climbing to 12th place in the national ranking with a 27.3 percentage point increase.

The results were presented by Anastasiia Mazurok, Chief Operating Officer at Transparency International Ukraine, during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine on the Ukrainian Cities Transparency Ranking amid the full-scale war.

“The city currently holds the 12th position and has raised its average score from just under 36 to 63 points. While it still falls under ‘partially transparent city’ status, the scale of progress is clearly substantial,” Mazurok stated.

According to her, Zaporizhia received particularly high marks in the “Response to War-Related Challenges” category, scoring 83%, and in “Public Relations,” where it earned 73.3%.

Mazurok highlighted several best practices driving this improvement, including the timely publication of data on humanitarian aid received, independent public participation in compensation commissions for damaged or destroyed property, and the transparent publication of the commissions’ decisions.

“These measures clearly reflect an ongoing dialogue and the presence of transparent interaction between the authorities and the public,” she added.
