What to do in case of fire: recommendations from emergency services

If a fire is detected, citizens should first notify the emergency services by calling 101.

This was emphasized by Anatolii Shkarbuta, representative of the Emergency Prevention Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

He explained the correct action algorithm for citizens in case of fire.

When a fire is detected, immediately call the emergency services at 101 – report the incident, give the exact address, location of the fire and whether there are people trapped. Give your name and stay on the line for possible further clarification.

After the call is made, take steps to evacuate and rescue people in the area.

Then, if the situation permits, you can begin extinguishing the fire with primary firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers. However, it is important to understand that you should only attempt to extinguish the fire if there is no threat to your own health. If there is such a threat, such as heavy smoke or very high temperatures from the fire, it is not recommended that you try to extinguish the fire on your own before firefighters arrive.
