Western Ukraine and coastal regions still top domestic travel destinations – State Agency for Tourism Development
In the first quarter of 2025, Ukraine’s western regions and coastal areas remained among the most popular domestic travel destinations, according to Natalia Tabaka, head of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine.
Speaking at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine, Tabaka said the agency tracks travel trends based on the paid tourist tax. “We’re able to monitor the preferences of travelers choosing to explore Ukraine thanks to the tourist tax data,” she noted. “In the first quarter of 2025, the western regions continued to lead. These include Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil. There’s also a lot of movement around Kyiv. And, of course, during the summer season, despite the anxiety of sleepless nights and constant danger, people still choose to vacation by the sea.”
According to Tabaka, domestic travel remains resilient even amid wartime conditions, and many Ukrainians turn to nature as a way to reset.
“Overall, the main demand is for rest, quality sleep, outdoor recreation, and relaxation near water, whether it’s a river, lake, or the sea,” she added.
