“We were told women can’t be friends”: Forum marks 140th anniversary of Ukrainian Women’s Movement, highlights key outcomes
The Forum commemorating the 140th anniversary of the Ukrainian Women’s Movement, titled “The Women’s Movement Is in All Women,” brought together women from various walks of life. Participants ranged from those involved in rural cooperatives to influential opinion leaders, all united by a common cause.
At a briefing held at the Media Center Ukraine, Iryna Trokhym, the project manager of the NGO Women’s Perspectives Center emphasized the vital role of women in active community engagement. The event showcased successful examples of women’s collaboration and entrepreneurship, underscoring the power of unity.
“We were told that women don’t know how to be friends. We need to shatter this stereotype,” said Trokhym during the briefing. The forum highlighted instances where women have supported one another, demonstrating how such solidarity can strengthen their roles in society.
However, Iryna Trokhym also acknowledged a significant challenge: women’s leadership in Ukraine remains underrepresented. Addressing this issue is a key focus for the women’s movement as it strives to elevate the presence and influence of female leaders in the country.
