We need to use Danube ports even more actively – expert
Ports on Danube river are at the moment alternative ways to deliver cargo to Ukraine.
This was stated by Oleksandr Yatsenko, the headmaster of the Odesa Institute of Maritime Management and Enterprise, at a briefing at the Ukraine-Odesa Media Center.
“Words like “grain treaty” or “grain corridor” was relevant when the russian federation was involved in the export of food from Ukrainian ports with the participation of the UN and Turkey. Now it is inappropriate to say this,” the scientist believes.
“Nowadays, the Danube ports work for export and import of various cargoes – this is the safest way to trade with European countries. And now the ports on the Danube are working despite the constant attacks by Russian drones that destroy the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
“The enemy knows that the main flow of cargo for us comes to the Danube ports and leaves us through them, so they want to destroy our infrastructure. Despite the shelling, we continue to work,” emphasizes the rector of the Institute of Maritime Management and Enterprise.
Oleksandr Yatsenko believes that Russia will not dare to attack Romanian cities, and that they will tolerate what reaches the borders of our neighbour in order not to enter the war.
“By working together with our allies and neighbours, we must establish all possible ways to deliver cargo, while there are still too few bulk carriers and dry cargo ships leaving the ports of Greater Odesa,” Yatsenko concluded.
