Water-related fatalities increase by over one third this year – State Emergency Service

In Ukraine, from June 1 to July 7, 262 people died in water-related fatalities, including 42 children. The number of water-related accidents increased by 34.5% compared to last year.

Svitlana Vodolaha, Head of the Press Service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“At the beginning of summer alone, from June 1 to July 7, 262 people died, including 42 children. This is a 34.5% increase, compared to last year. Only within the last day, 25 people died in water related fatalities, including one child,” said Svitlana Vodolaha.

According to her, this year there has been a significant increase in the death of both adults and children in water related fatalities. So, since the beginning of the year, 562 people have died in such accidents, including 61 children.

At the same time, 188 people have been rescued since the beginning of the year, including 17 children.
