Water-related deaths rise in 2025: State Emergency Service of Ukraine

The number of fatalities linked to water incidents since the start of 2025 has surpassed figures from the same period in 2024, according to the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine.

Speaking at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine, SES spokesperson Oleksandr Khorunzhyi confirmed the increase, stating: “When it comes to water bodies, we are observing a rise in the number of deaths. If we compare the statistics to assess the trend, 28 people have lost their lives in 2025. During the same period last year, the number stood at 25. That means three more fatalities this year.”

Khorunzhyi also highlighted a positive note, reporting that, unlike last year, no child fatalities have been recorded in water-related incidents so far in 2025.
