Verkhovna Rada to consider moscow Patriarchate ban at next meeting
One of the first issues to be considered at the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which will take place in the coming days, is the ban of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the moscow Patriarchate.
Oleksandr Korniyenko, First Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine.
“Indeed, one of the first items on the agenda is the bill on the regulation of the activities of religious organizations, it is a national security issue. In fact, this is a bill that is publicly referred to as “ban on moscow church or moscow ties for churches.” By the way, the President spoke on this bill, and we heard his support, as well as the support of the Head of the Office (of the President – Ed.) yesterday. The day before yesterday there was another statement, as the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations expressed its support, as well as all our holy fathers of all denominations – both the Greek Catholic Church and, of course, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. I think that it is important to adopt this bill, as we can see what kind of discussions this issue is causing in society,” said Oleksandr Korniyenko.
