Ukrainians’ appeal to add russia to UN ‘list of shame’ delivered to UN representative in Ukraine
A letter from Ukrainian survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) urging the UN Secretary-General to add russia to the so-called “list of shame” has been officially handed over to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine.
Daria Zymenko, a representative of SEMA Ukraine NGO, shared the update during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine.
“Last week, on January 24, we met with Matthias Schmale and personally delivered the letter to him. After reading it, he said it was one of the most powerful appeals he had come across recently. He was deeply moved by it. We hope this letter will move forward and lead to the impact and results we expect,” she said.
Meanwhile, Andrii Kochmuradov, head of the “December 29th” NGO, noted that the timeframe for the UN’s response remains unclear. However, during the meeting, the UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine assured them that he would help advance the appeal and pass it on to the UN Secretary-General.
