Ukrainian retail nears pre-war levels with UAH 1.5 trillion turnover in 2023
Retail activity in Ukraine is steadily rebounding, approaching the turnover levels seen before the full-scale russian invasion.
During a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine, Andrii Zhuk, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Retail Association of Ukraine, shared these insights.
“Every year, we evaluate retail turnover, and for 2023, it stands at UAH 1.5 trillion. This represents a 30% increase in hryvnia terms compared to 2022. However, in terms of volume, we’re selling as much as we did in 2021, before the war. This indicates a gradual recovery in the retail sector, with new stores slowly opening and turnover nearing pre-war levels. It’s important to remember, though, that these figures are in hryvnias, and the exchange rate has changed significantly since then,” said Zhuk.
