Ukrainian language mandated for regional print media starting today – Taras Kremin
On Tuesday, July 16, a provision of the language law regarding regional print media was enforced.
That’s according to Taras Kremin, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, speaking at the briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“As of today, July 16, 2024, the Ukrainian language is mandatory for regional print media. Article 25 stipulates that all print media must be available in Ukrainian, with adherence to volume, font, size, and circulation matching that of their non-state language counterparts,” Kremin stated.
He stressed that publications previously issued or currently in print in a non-state language must now produce a Ukrainian-language edition mirroring all aspects of the original publication, distributed concurrently through all available channels. This requirement extends to subscription services, ensuring access to regional publications in Ukrainian.
Additionally, Kremin outlined that at locations where print media are distributed (such as subway stands, train stations, supermarkets, and gas stations), at least half of the available titles must be in Ukrainian.
