Ukrainian cities urged to draft backup heating plans amid ongoing energy threats

Hostile attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure remain a serious concern, Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Industry Research Center, said during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“The risks of such attacks persist. The danger is significant,” Kharchenko noted. “That’s why cities with central heating systems must have a Plan B. Every neighborhood and building should have a backup plan in case a heating main or central boiler plant is destroyed.”

According to Kharchenko, local authorities must prioritize developing contingency measures to keep buildings warm even under reduced temperature conditions.
