Ukrainian carriers lack 10-15% of drivers – Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine
Some people left the country at the beginning of the war and did not return, some were mobilized to the Ukrainian defense forces. This was stated by Viktor Berestenko, President of the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
He noted that Ukrainian carriers now have “a lot of questions about who will resume and organize transportation”. It is very difficult to find qualified workers.
“Our association members have a large percentage of their fleet not being used due to a lack of drivers. Some have left and never returned, some are mobilized to the defense forces. The injury rate has also increased. On average, there is a 10-15% shortage of personnel in the market,” – Berestenko said.
He added that in order to reduce the burden on people, the Ukrainian authorities have now organized joint checkpoints, where cargo is checked only once, by both Ukrainian and foreign colleagues.
