Ukrainian Border Service warns citizens against attempting illegal crossings into Belarus
Ukrainian authorities say attempts to cross national borders illegally are a daily occurrence, with border guards detaining violators both near and directly at the frontier.
Andrii Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS), spoke on the issue at the Media Center Ukraine.
“To respond promptly to such attempts, the SBGS relies on a range of technical monitoring measures. Most illegal crossing attempts are recorded along the border with Romania, followed by the border with Moldova. Cases are far fewer along the border with Poland, while the situation at the Belarusian border is less pronounced. In most cases, the offenders are not independent in planning their routes; they turn to the organizers of such schemes. Led by such criminal groups, people choose to cross the border with Belarus,” he said.
