Ukraine to roll out injection to prevent HIV

Ukraine is preparing to broaden access to the injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) drug for HIV prevention, according to the Public Health Center of Ukraine.

The country has already scaled up both oral and injectable PrEP options, said Larysa Hetman, head of the Public Health Center’s HIV Infection Management and Control Department, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“In 2025, nearly 2 million people were tested for HIV. More than 10,000 individuals received pre-exposure prophylaxis, a drug-based prevention method. And in 2024–2025, we succeeded in expanding the availability of the injectable form of PrEP across all regions,” Hetman said.

The Public Health Center of Ukraine reported that 6,106 people have been diagnosed with HIV this year.
