Ukraine to expand spring wheat acreage by 25% this year – Denys Marchuk

The approach to crop selection in Ukraine remains largely unchanged from last year. However, a significant increase in the area under spring wheat is expected, with acreage projected to grow by nearly a quarter compared to the previous season.

Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, announced this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“This season, we are making a strong push for spring wheat. The increase will be around 25% compared to last season,” Marchuk stated.

At the same time, he noted that soybean acreage may be reduced.

“Soybean planting might be scaled back partially. Last year, we produced a considerable amount, but given the market price and production costs, it did not yield significant profits for farmers. So, there may be a decrease in soybean acreage,” he explained.

As for corn and sunflower, forecasts remain stable, with a potential increase in corn planting.

Farmers are optimistic that the current rainfall will improve soil conditions, creating more favorable circumstances for spring fieldwork, which is set to enter its active phase in April.
