Ukraine should not expect significant flooding – Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine
This year, most rivers in Ukraine are expected to experience normal or below-normal flooding. Only on small rivers in the Kharkiv region and on the tributaries of the Southern Bug can higher than normal levels be expected. This was stated during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center by Viktoria Kornienko, head of the hydrological forecasting department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
“We are already observing the development of spring processes on rivers. Water levels on rivers are predominantly rising. At present, no sudden changes in weather conditions are expected, but flood processes will continue,” she said.
As the snow continues to melt, experts expect water to flood the floodplains in the Volyn, Lviv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kyiv regions. Warm weather without precipitation is expected in the near future.
