Ukraine sees doubling of fires in ecosystem over six months – SES

The number of fires in Ukraine’s ecosystems has doubled compared to last year, with 22,000 fires recorded in the first half of 2024. This significant increase was reported by Svitlana Vodolaha, Head of the Press Service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Over the past six months, more than 22,000 fires have occurred in our ecosystems. This is twice the number compared to the same period last year when there were 10,000 such fires. These include fires in open areas and forests,” Vodolaha stated.

This year, seven people have died, and 22 have been injured in these fires, whereas last year, the same period saw nine fatalities.
