Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reports seven ice-related deaths in the first nine days of 2026
Seven people have died on frozen lakes and rivers since the start of 2026, including one child. Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Service, revealed this information during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Seven people have died on frozen bodies of water, including a child born in 2013. In this weather, the ice is fragile. We have not yet had the sustained frost required for it to be safe to go out on the ice or for ice fishing,” he emphasized.
