Ukraine’s spring planting passes midway wark, Agrarian Ministry says

Ukraine’s spring planting campaign is progressing steadily despite weather-related setbacks, with farmers already planting more than three million hectares of grains and over three million hectares of oilseeds.

Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, shared the update during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“The projected area for spring crops stands at approximately 13.7 million hectares. This figure remains unchanged. To date, over three million hectares of grain and more than three million hectares of oilseeds have been sown. That’s why the campaign is progressing with such confidence. It’s already May, we have another month to wrap up, and in most regions, sowing is typically completed by early June,” Vysotskyi noted.

He added that owing has already been completed for spring wheat, spring barley, peas, and sugar beets, according to the ministry. Corn and sunflower have been sown on about half of their planned areas. Buckwheat planting is just getting underway, with less than 10% of the target completed. Soybeans have been planted on roughly 25% of the expected acreage.
