Ukraine’s natgas output falls short by 30%, amid russian attacks on fields – energy expert warns
Ukraine’s natural gas production is falling significantly short of demand, lagging by roughly 30% due to ongoing russian strikes on gas fields, according to a leading energy expert.
Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Industry Research Center, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“The occupiers aren’t hitting infrastructure but are instead deliberately striking gas fields, both state-owned and private. As a result, we’re seeing a continuous loss of gas inventories,” Kharchenko explained. “Restoration efforts are underway, but we’re still 30% behind where we need to be.”
He added that, given the shortfall, Ukraine will likely need to purchase gas this winter, an expense that could total around USD 2 billion.
