Ukraine’s border guard identifies hotspots for illegal crossings
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reports that attempts to illegally cross the border occur almost daily, with no decline in numbers. Most of these incidents happen in “green areas”—sections of the border away from official checkpoints.
Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, shared these insights at a briefing held at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Illegal border crossing attempts remain steady. They also occur at checkpoints, where individuals try to use forged documents, hide in vehicles, or bribe border inspectors. However, most attempts are in green areas, away from checkpoints. We haven’t seen a significant increase recently, but the number of attempts hasn’t decreased either. The daily figures fluctuate, but such incidents are a constant,” Demchenko stated.
Demchenko also highlighted the specific border areas with the highest activity.
“The borders with Moldova and Romania see the most attempts. Other borders, including those with Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland, also experience such activities but with significantly fewer people than the first two,” he added.
