Ukraine’s agrarian infrastructure faces $50 billion loss amid russian invasion, says Denys Marchuk
Ukraine’s agricultural sector has incurred damages exceeding $50 billion due to the all-out russian invasion and subsequent attacks.
Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council, made this statement at the Media Center Ukraine briefing.
“The losses are staggering. Alongside the direct and indirect damages we’ve frequently discussed, which now total tens of billions of dollars, we can assert that over $50 billion in damage has been inflicted on our agricultural infrastructure,” Marchuk said.
Marchuk highlighted that the russian forces have intensified targeted strikes on agricultural fields, aiming to destroy the harvest.
“In the Kherson region, there are numerous instances where russians deploy FPV drones specifically to set crops ablaze. Farmers who have de-mined small plots of 100, 200, or 400 hectares are losing 20 to 30 hectares at a time. This is an enormous financial blow since many farmers rely on loans to fund their operations, and the proceeds are intended for repaying debts and planning their economic future,” he added.
