Ukraine records over 100,000 fires this year, authorities urge caution

In 2025, there were a total of more than 100,000 fires recorded in Ukraine, with over 22,000 of all incidents occurring in homes, prompting the State Emergency Service of Ukraine to call for heightened public vigilance. The warning was issued by Viktor Vitovetskyi, Director of the Department for Organization of Civil Protection Measures at the SESU, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Careless handling of fire remains the leading cause, accounting for more than 7,000 incidents. Nearly the same number are linked to emergency power grid operations, which is especially concerning as winter frost has not yet arrived. The coming winter cold promises even more unpleasant surprises, making strict attention to safety absolutely essential,” Vitovetskyi said.

He urged citizens to adhere to basic fire prevention measures:

– Avoid overloading electrical circuits.

– Exercise caution with gas and electrical appliances.

– Do not leave devices plugged in unattended.

– Use certified holiday lights whenever possible.
