Ukraine moves to expand labor mediation system, eyes public registry of certified mediators

The National Mediation and Conciliation Service aims to train roughly 100 labor mediators by the end of the year and establish a public registry of certified specialists, the agency’s head announced on Monday.

Speaking at a briefing hosted by Media Center Ukraine, Dmytro Kukhniuk, head of the National Mediation and Conciliation Service, said the initiative is part of a broader effort to expand the country’s labor dispute resolution capacity in line with international standards.

“To begin with, we’d like to have about a hundred labor mediators trained by the end of this year, if possible,” Kukhniuk said. “At the very least, we aim to double the number of mediators already certified through the training center in Turin.”

According to Kukhniuk, if the pending legislation is passed, the service would also be responsible for maintaining a national registry of qualified labor mediators, which would be made publicly available online.

“The National Mediation and Conciliation Service, if the draft law is adopted, will maintain a register of certified mediators, and the agency’s website will provide up-to-date information on available specialists in each region,” he explained. “This will allow parties in labor disputes to reach out directly for support. Based on both global and European experience, this method has proven to be faster, more cost-effective, and far more efficient in resolving workplace conflicts.”
