Ukraine launches S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 project to teach teens mine safety
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) has teamed up with GSC Game World, the studio behind the acclaimed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, to launch a first-of-its-kind educational project aimed at teaching adolescents landmine safety.
UNICEF research shows that teens ages 14 to 17, particularly those in rural and small-town communities, are the most vulnerable to explosive hazards. To reach them, SES integrated safety lessons into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, with the game’s main character, Skif, guiding players through video sequences that explain how to recognize and respond to suspicious or dangerous objects.
The initiative blends modern technology with a critical public safety message: there may be no second chance in real life.
“S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 captivates young people, and that’s why we chose this platform to show what explosive devices look like in our region,” said Sergey Artemenko, creative director at Rockets. Growth R&D, the marketing agency involved in the project. “You can test it all in the game, but not in reality. In real life, you need to keep your distance, never touch it, and call the professionals.”
Roman Prymush, deputy head of SES of Ukraine for digital development and transformation, said the war has made it clear that the government must overhaul how it communicates with the public.
