Ukraine in talks with partners on using foreign aid for defense

The Ukrainian government is negotiating with its international partners on allowing borrowed funds to be used for defense spending. 

Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of parliament and of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, told a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine that Kyiv is seeking to redirect parts of foreign budgetary programs to address its defense shortfall.

“We are negotiating with our Western partners to adjust their position on the use of foreign financial assistance, not only for social, economic, and cultural needs, but also for security and defense,” Venislavskyi said.
