Ukraine Health Ministry explains limited access to flu vaccines this season

Starting next epidemic season, countries globally will adopt vaccines that protect against three influenza strains instead of four. This shift resulted in a smaller market share for quadrivalent jabs, contributing to lower overall availability in Ukraine compared with previous years.

Oleksandr Zaika, head of the Department for Infectious Disease Prevention and Immunization at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, addressed the issue during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“The number of flu vaccines entering Ukraine is controlled by the private sector,” Zaika said. “I wouldn’t say there were no vaccines available, but the supply was lower than usual.”
