Ukraine has the second-highest number of HIV cases in Europe – AIDS Healthcare Foundation in Ukraine

Over the next five years, the number of people infected with HIV could increase by six million, potentially resulting in four million deaths. A significant portion of these deaths could occur in Ukraine.

Yaroslava Lopatina, Country Program Director at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF Ukraine), stated this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Our country has the second-highest number of people living with HIV in Eastern Europe. The most common route of transmission in Ukraine is through sexual contact,” she said.

Lopatina also noted that significant breakthroughs have been made in the treatment of this disease. However, society continues to stigmatize the issue.
