Ukraine has approximately 139,000 square kilometers of potential mine contamination – SES

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), the territory of Ukraine potentially contaminated with explosive hazards may currently amount to approximately 139,000 square kilometers.

Serhii Reva, Head of the Department for Organizational Work on Humanitarian Demining at the Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, shared this information during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Today our country remains one of the most contaminated with explosive ordnance. Thanks to the efforts of the Defence Forces and deminers, we have managed to reduce the contaminated area somewhat. According to the data of the National Mine Action Center Secretariat, the potentially contaminated territory of our state is currently about 139,000 square kilometers,” Reva said.
