Ukraine faces a 30% labor shortage in agriculture

Despite deferments for those employed in industry, Ukraine’s agriculture is grappling with a significant shortage of workers, a situation that has worsened since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Denys Marchuk, deputy chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council, shared his assessment at a briefing hosted by Media Center Ukraine.

“Before the full-scale invasion, the agricultural sector faced a 10% shortfall in workers; today, that figure has surged past 30%,” Marchuk stated.

He added that although veterans are returning to agriculture and women are acquiring new skills, the labor gap continues to widen, putting further strain on the sector.
