Ukraine commits over UAH 6 billion to Affordable Medicines Program – NHSU Chief says
Ukraine has earmarked more than UAH 6 billion from the state budget this year for its Affordable Medicines Program, marking a record level of funding aimed at ensuring broader access to essential treatments, according to the head of the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU).
Speaking at the Media Center Ukraine, the National Health Service of Ukraine head Natalia Husak said the initiative, designed to offer medications at no cost or with partial copayment, has seen a major boost in funding in 2025.
“This year, we have an unprecedented amount of the ‘Affordable Medicines’ program, more than UAH 6 billion of budget funds, half of which we have already paid to pharmacies,” Husak stated. “This year we also have an unprecedented expansion of the program. More than 30 affordable substances have been added.”
The list of reimbursable drugs currently includes 626 brand names, with further additions planned in the coming months. Starting in August, the program will be expanded to cover folic acid for pregnant women and hormone therapies for cancer patients, two categories Husak described as critical to meeting public health needs.
