Ukraine aims to deploy educational security officers in 3,000 schools next year – Education Ministry
More than 1,600 schools across Ukraine currently have educational security officers on staff, a figure the Ministry of Education and Science hopes to nearly double in the upcoming academic year.
Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Nadiia Kuzmychova, announced the expansion during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine, citing the growing threat of teenage recruitment by russian intelligence services as a key reason for the initiative.
As noted at the briefing, Ukrainian authorities have recorded more than 1,000 cases in which teenagers were recruited by russian special services. Educational security officers are working to prevent such incidents.
“An Educational Security Service officer is working with such situations, which are unfortunately becoming a reality of our time. We already have such officers in more than 1,600 schools. This is a project that the Ministry of Education and Science is implementing jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And the plans for the next year are to extend this type of security presence to 3,000 schools, with a dedicated person who is physically present and accountable on site,” said Nadiia Kuzmychova.
