Ukraine adopts European standards for digital accessibility
Ukraine is aligning its public digital services with new European standards for barrier-free access.
Tetiana Lomakina, Advisor – Presidential Commissioner for a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine, highlighted this initiative during a presentation at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Everything is happening gradually, step by step. What matters is that everything being developed today in the digital realm, from the state’s perspective, aligns with the new European standard. This is truly a significant step forward,” she said.
Lomakina stressed that digital accessibility principles should apply not only to government websites but also to the online platforms of local governments and businesses. She noted that a new law is currently in the works to establish clear requirements in this area.
“We would like these standards to extend beyond government websites to include local authorities and businesses in Ukraine. To this end, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, is drafting a law that will define all these requirements. We are making progress step by step, and we deeply appreciate the support of our partners,” Lomakina added.
