Trump’s formula is stalling, the Kremlin is not interested in ending the war – Vadym Denysenko

The formula for a negotiation process aimed at achieving peace between Ukraine and russia, which US President Donald Trump tried to implement 100 days ago, now clearly faces major problems in terms of implementation. Besides, neither putin nor his inner circle are interested in ending the war.

This opinion was expressed by political analyst Vadym Denysenko during a discussion at the Media Center Ukraine.

“The formula that existed 100 days ago, which Trump tried to implement over those 100 days, is de facto stalling as of today, and it definitely faces major challenges in terms of implementation,” he noted.

According to the expert, putin and his entourage are not interested in negotiations due to their own political and economic motives.

“In addition, we have to remember that putin does not want a negotiation process at this point. Given the choice between lifting sanctions and continuing the war, he has chosen to continue the war. On the one hand, this has to do with putin’s psychological traits – he really believes that the summer offensive will be his panacea and that he will be able to achieve a lot. On the other hand, his closest circle has initiated a significant redistribution of assets in the russian federation, and we can clearly see that six or seven families in russia are essentially taking everything that can be seized, the most serious and largest assets of the re-privatization in russia,” he explained.

Thus, according to the political analyst, ending the war at this point would complicate this asset-grabbing process and change the rules of the game.

“That’s why they are not interested in the war ending anytime soon,” he added.

Vadim Denysenko also noted that another factor that largely prevents putin from stopping the war is the return of one million people from the front. The expert pointed out that neither the Kremlin’s internal bloc nor putin himself currently understands what to do with these people.

“This is a conglomerate of factors that make a ceasefire almost impossible or practically impossible today. And unfortunately, we can say that while the issue of peace or even a ceasefire is theoretically on the agenda – there’s a small chance that it could happen, there’s still a little time before May 9, and in purely theoretical terms we could talk about Trump securing a 30-day ceasefire – the likelihood of this is quite low. It’s clear that we’re moving toward scenario B, where the next window of opportunity for negotiations will not open until after the summer campaign is over,” he said.
