This season, farmers expect to harvest about 70 million tons of grain and oil crops – Denys Marchuk

With this year’s harvest, the country’s export potential may reach 56 million tons.

Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council, announced these figures during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“The crops statistics in some places is even better than in 2022. Because of the favorable weather conditions, there are regions where the figures for wheat harvesting are quite good. And actually, this indicates that we will have 70 million tons of grain and oil crops this season. Let me remind you that last season a little more than 78 million tons were harvested. That is, the difference isn’t very significant, taking into account the fact that many producers were in fact forced to halt their operations or limit the amount of sown areas,” he explained.

Therefore, says Denys Marchuk, food security within the country will be guaranteed, as Ukraine requires 18-20 million tons, depending on the needs of the year.

“And taking into account the carry-over stocks, which as of July 1 reached the order of 9 million tons of grain and oil crops, the export potential can be as high as over 56 million tons with this harvest,” he added.

In addition, Denys Marchuk noted that “corridors” are required as well as ways to allow producers to realize their potential and export their product.
