Third Assault Brigade expanding UAV units on a large scale – Head of Recruitment

The evolving nature of warfare demands a significant expansion of UAV units, according to Dmytro Kukharchuk, head of recruitment of the 3rd Assault Brigade. Speaking at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine, Kukharchuk underscored the growing role of drones in combat.

“Our units are expanding, and our UAV units are scaling up significantly because the nature of the war has changed dramatically. This is now a critical component,” he stated.

Kukharchuk emphasized that with drones and robotic systems responsible for over 80% of inflicted damage, the brigade is making a substantial increase in UAV unit staffing.

“Today, more than 80% of the damage comes from drones and robotic systems. As a result, the dynamics of warfare are shifting—the strategies, the required personnel, and the training process are all evolving. We are now fighting a drone war, which necessitates a major expansion in UAV unit staffing,” he explained.

Head of recruitment of the 3rd Assault Brigade also outlined the various roles essential for UAV operations, highlighting that beyond drone pilots—whether for Mavic drones, FPV drones, bombing drones, and fixed-wing drones, among others—there are entire teams involved.

“For each type of drone, there’s not just a single operator but a full crew, including assistants, drivers, maintenance personnel, ammunition specialists, and many other critical roles,” Kukharchuk added.
