“The Women’s Movement Is each of us”: Forum on 140th anniversary of Ukrainian Women’s Movement yields key results
On August 20-21, Kyiv hosted the Forum commemorating the 140th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Women’s Movement, themed “The Women’s Movement Is Active in All Women.” The event brought together organizers, speakers, and participants to discuss shared values and the enduring impact of women’s leadership.
Iryna Trokhym, project manager at the Women’s Perspectives Center, highlighted at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine that the forum celebrated women’s leadership across various sectors and revisited the pioneers who initiated the women’s movement in Ukrainian society 140 years ago.
The forum served as a platform for exchanging experiences, discussing strategies, and exploring new avenues for advancing the Ukrainian women’s movement both nationally and internationally. Tetiana Chernetska, Vice Chairman of the Board of the Center for Gender Culture, noted at the same briefing that Ukrainian women had been advocating for feminism and unity since the movement’s inception 140 years ago.
The Forum also revisited quotes from the movement’s founders, whose words from 140 years ago continue to resonate today.
