The war against Ukraine has demonstrated that no country in the world is safe – Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Mariana Betsa, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, stated during the Fourth International Forum of the International Crimea Platform Expert Network that the issue of Crimea is the cornerstone where russian aggression began and where it must end with the de-occupation of the peninsula.
“Without recognizing that the territorial integrity of any state must be respected within its borders, there will be no sustainable peace in the world. The war unleashed by russia has consequences for the entire system of international law. No country is safe when the fundamental principles of the UN Charter have been grossly violated for 12 years,” she said.
Betsa emphasized that Ukraine, with the support of international partners, is currently documenting war crimes, which will enable the subsequent prosecution of every war criminal: “All violations are being meticulously recorded in reports by the UN Secretary-General, the UN Human Rights Council, and the independent UN Commission. This is crucial work. The documentation of crimes is the future evidence base for legal proceedings against russia.”
