The State Service of Ukraine on Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience files a lawsuit to liquidate the UOC-MP; the Kyiv Metropolis of the russian Church countersues

The State Service of Ukraine on Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience has ruled that the Kyiv Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) is affiliated with a banned foreign religious organization. As the Kyiv Metropolis failed to comply with this directive, the State Service of Ukraine on Ethnic Policy is filing a lawsuit.

Viktor Yelenskyi, head of the State Service of Ukraine on Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, shared this information during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“According to the law, if the directive is not fulfilled, our next step is to file a lawsuit. It was submitted to the administrative court on August 29. Incidentally, the Kyiv Metropolis itself has filed several lawsuits in response. They are challenging the directive and other matters. However, we are a democratic country, and the final decision will rest with the court,” he said.

While a court ruling will not automatically dissolve the UOC-MP, it will require the UOC-MP to withdraw from the russian Church.
