The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate does not allow for the possibility of returning the Chernobyl NPP to operation

The Chernobyl NPP is in the process of being decommissioned. This was stated during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center by Oleg Korikov, Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate – Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine

“After the accident in 1986, units 1, 2, and 3 were restored and operated for some time. But it was a political decision to shut down the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The plant is now in the second stage of decommissioning, which makes it impossible to return it to operation as an energy generation facility. The equipment has already been dismantled,” he said.

Equally important, fuel for such reactors is only available in Russia.
