The state must take into account the economic profile of internally displaced persons for community development – Association of Ukrainian Cities
In Ukraine, there are examples of three communities that have independently improved the level of service provision by attracting leading specialists from among IDPs and offering them decent salaries. This was stated by Oleksandr Slobozhan, executive director of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, at the Ukraine Media Center.
“A person who was economically active and moved to another community because of the war does not need ‘handouts’. They need to be provided with work and housing. For example, the Sarny and Balta communities attracted medical professionals with high salaries, and they received packages of medical services. This, of course, increased their income,” the expert notes.
At the same time, he points to the lack of state support for communities trying to improve their economic situation. This leads to a lack of adequate funding for local utilities.
