The State Emergency Service of Ukraine issues key safety guidelines for the autumn-winter period

The primary causes of fires during the colder months are improper use of heating appliances and unsafe stove heating.

Viktor Vitovetskyi, Director of the Department for Organization of Civil Protection Measures at the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, issued this reminder during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Homemade or damaged appliances are a primary source of danger. I urge everyone to avoid using them, refrain from drying clothes on them, and avoid overloading electrical circuits,” he stated.

Vitovetskyi also urged citizens to have gas boilers inspected before use and to contact the relevant services immediately if they smell gas.

The SESU reiterated the following essential safety rules:

– Have chimneys regularly cleaned of soot;

– Maintain a safe distance between heating appliances and furniture;

– Keep a metal sheet on the floor in front of every stove;

– Ensure all smoke flues must be properly plastered.
