The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported how many citizens died while trying to cross the border illegally

According to the State Border Guard Service, at least 40 people lost their lives trying to cross the border illegally. Most of these incidents occurred in rivers.

“At least 40 people lost their lives trying to cross the border illegally. Most of these incidents occurred in rivers. In fact, people drowned because they misjudged their strength. Some rivers are quite treacherous, with tree roots that people can’t see that can pull them under. There have also been incidents in hard-to-reach mountainous areas where people have gotten lost, unfamiliar with the terrain and unable to find their way out of the forest. Many times, border guards saved the lives of people who have been wandering for days in the mountains, only to be completely exhausted because of their reckless actions,” Andrii Demchenko said.
