The issue of transition to Revised Julian calendar has been around for a long time, the war accelerated this process – OCU priest

The war is not the main reason for Ukraine’s transition to the Revised Julian calendar, as this issue has been around since the beginning of the 20th century. However, the war played an important role in this matter – it strengthened, catalyzed and gave a certain impetus to the process.

Heorhii Kovalenko, Priest of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), made this statement during the discussion at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“The war accelerated these processes, and a political component was added to it. And now we can actually set the Ukrainian church apart from the church of the moscow patriarchate, including by the days when the holidays are celebrated. And now sticking to the old calendar is, among other things, one of the signs of being in the same calendar, time and traditional space with the moscow patriarchate. But this is not the main reason, not the main part of the issue, although it played its role,” the priest explained.
