The Global Peace Summit is evidence that the war will last for a long time for us – Yevhen Mahda
In the course of the Global Peace Summit, a number of indicative facts can be noted, which, in particular, indicate that the war will continue.
Yevhen Mahda, Executive Director of the Institute of World Policy, made this statement during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“I think that for Ukraine this Summit is evidence that the war will last for a long time for us. Because at this Summit, representatives of various “clubs” – the Western “club”, the Global South “club” – they kept on doing the same old, same old. No one changed their position during the Summit. And this is also an indicative fact. As well as the fact that Saudi Arabia, which the President (of Ukraine – Ed.) had visited twice in the three weeks before the Summit, still did not sign the communiqué,” he noted.
According to Yevhen Mahda, the main conclusion based on the results of the Summit can be described in three words – wait and see.
“The main conclusion literally fits within ten letters – wait and see. I think we are watching the search for ways to peace continue in real time. And as for me, it is important that Ukraine acts as an initiator of this process. The fact that a year and a half passed from the publication of the ten points of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Plan to the actual meeting shows how difficult this process is. It’s like putting together a puzzle with dozens of moving parts. And the fact that it came together is already a success, despite russia’s and, unfortunately, China’s playing against participation and a sufficiently high representation at the Summit. It was obvious,” Yevhen Mahda explained.
As reported, the Global Peace Summit initiated by Ukraine was held in Switzerland on June 15-16. More than 100 countries and organizations from around the world took part in it.
