The expiration of the EU trade deal has caused €1 billion in losses for Ukrainian farmers

The expiration of the trade agreement with the EU has resulted in direct financial losses for Ukraine’s agricultural sector.

Denys Marchuk, deputy chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, stated this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Regarding the agreement itself, recent negotiations have improved conditions compared to the beginning of June. Sensitive agricultural products still face stricter quotas than in 2022-23, though better than before the full-scale invasion. As of today, the losses are expected to total around one billion euros,” he said.

Marchuk added, however, that if some countries continue to push the narrative that Ukrainian imports threaten their markets, the losses could increase.
